Necessary Blood Tests and How to Maintain Good Health

By Stefanos Pavlides*

Blood tests are one of the most essential tools for the prevention and monitoring of our health. They resemble a “snapshot” of our body, revealing valuable information about how it functions. Just like we check the oil level in a car to prevent damage, blood tests help us keep our body healthy.

The most common ones:

  • Hemoglobin

It functions as the body's "mail carrier" – it is the substance that transports oxygen to the tissues and organs. Low levels are associated with fatigue and weakness.

Normal levels:

Men: 13,8 – 17,2 g/dL

Women: 12,1 – 15,1 g/dL

  • White Blood Cells

The "guardians" of our immune system High or low values may indicate an infection, inflammation, or other pathological conditions.

  • Platelets

They act as a "rescue team" – When we get injured, they are responsible for the quick healing of the wound.

  • Cholesterol

It is like fat in tubes. Excessive amounts can block blood vessels and increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

How to improve our health

Through Diet:

- Preference for green vegetables

- Regular consumption of legumes (lentils, beans)

- Consumption of fruits rich in vitamins and antioxidants

Daily Life:

- Regular physical exercise (30 minutes of walking daily)

- Proper hydration – at least 6-8 glasses of water daily

- Adequate and quality sleep

Smoking and excessive alcohol consumption seriously harm your health and should be avoided

A blood test at least once a year can help prevent serious health problems. It is a reliable way to get to know our body better and intervene when and where needed. There is no reason to fear – the process is simple and painless, with significant benefits. Talk to your doctor about the appropriate tests based on age, gender, and personal medical history.
