They have a compression-controlled system that allows women under examination to adjust the degree of compression under the supervision of the technologist to minimize their feeling of pressure without affecting the image quality.

Tomosynthesis (3D Mammography)

Tomosynthesis is an imaging technology that is applied by scanning the compressed breast with only 9 shots of small dose short X-rays, which then reconstitute creating a three-dimensional image.

The 3D image depicts in detail and more accurate potential benign and malignant findings, while it improves the possibilities of detection of structural disturbances and cell masses.

Tomosynthesis is more sensitive to structural disturbances, fuzzy shadows, and cell masses, especially in dense breasts, and enhances diagnostic accuracy.

Ultrasound is the cornerstone for detection and diagnosis of breast lesions. It is a specialized preventive examination for women under 35 years of age.

Breast ultrasound provides visualization and characterization of abnormalities, like those in palpation during the clinical examination or those that arise in the screening mammogram.

• Ultrasound Against Mammography

Some cancers and other abnormalities cannot be depicted or are difficult to interpret with mammography. Especially in women with dense breasts (i.e., fibrous, or glandular tissue and not much fat in the breasts), breast screening ultrasound has been shown to be an important complementary mammogram, aiding the detection of small breast tumors that might not otherwise be visible.

Breast MRI is a complementary to conventional mammography diagnostic procedure that is performed on the 3 Tesla MRI.

Its advantage lies in its high sensitivity, which, in the literature, is reported ranging between 89% and 100%.

The instructions / indications for the use of Breast MRI as determined by the ACR (American College of Radiology) are as follows:

• complementary to the annual digital mammography in the context of screening in women at high risk for the development of breast cancer, such as: women with a known genetic predisposition or with first-degree relatives carrying pathological genes (such as mutations in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes) and women who underwent chest radiation between the ages of 10 and 30

The diagnostic indications of Breast MRI are:

• Preoperative staging to assess the extent of the disease in women diagnosed with breast cancer (multifocality and multicentricity).
• Investigation of possible relapse of the disease in women who have had breast cancer surgery.
• Investigation of possible primary breast cancer in women with axillary lymph node metastasis (ALNM).
• Evaluation of chemotherapy response in women with breast cancer.
• Investigation of breast lesion that cannot be characterized exclusively by other imaging methods (conventional mammography, ultrasound).
